It’s fall y’all (I know it’s cheesy, but I had to say it at least once), which means breaking out the cozy spices, the fresh apples, and the pumpkin puree. When it comes to fall baking, I feel that September should be heavier on the apples, as you will see in this list, easing us into fall baked goods, and then we’ll let loose with all of the pumpkin. I made way more this month than I realized, but you know I had a good time doing it. As always, if there is something in this list you want to try without an already posted recipe, let me know and I’ll make sure you get it 🍎
1. Apple Pie

I believe that September is the month for apples and apple desserts, so I had to kick off the fall lineup with a classic apple pie. And, of course, I used my grandma’s recipe – posted here. I had a time with the crust (it’s always perfect, or a complete disaster, no in-between), but it still tasted great. It also spilled over and made a mess in the bottom of my oven, so that was fun.
2. Gluten Free Mixed Chip Cookies

We had some friends over for lunch, and I wasn’t going to have people over without making a dessert. I was going to make just regular chocolate chip, but I had some white chips I wanted to use, so I did half and half. They turned out pretty good.
3. Apple Butter

Like I said, September is for apples! One of my favorite apple things to make is apple butter, so I knew I had to share the recipe I use. It’s made in the crockpot, so it’s really easy to make and so delicious. I love having it on fresh biscuits or toast. You can find the recipe here.
4. Biscuits
I didn’t take a picture of just the biscuits, but you can see a couple pictured above. I used my posted recipe, which always turns out great. There is nothing like a fresh, homemade biscuit.
5. Burger Buns

We were having shredded chicken sandwiches for dinner, and I decided I wanted to try making the burger buns instead of buying them. They turned out decent, but they did just kind of feel like a larger dinner roll, rather than a bun. They were also kind of dense, but I don’t know if that was a recipe issue or execution issue. I’ll definitely being trying more in the future, so I’ll report back.
6. Pumpkin Muffins with Maple Brown Sugar Streusel

There muffins were absolutely delicious! I had a little trouble with the streusel topping, so I had to remake them, but once I got that figured out *chef’s kiss* They were super moist and just an overall excellent sweet treat for fall. These are a must bake for the season. Find the recipe here.
7. Failed Maple Brown Sugar Cookies

Clearly, I bake quite a bit, and I feel it’s only right to be transparent about the fact that not everything turns out right. These cookies were meant to be my cookie jar series cookies for this month, but they were so bad that I didn’t see how I could make a post with them. Looking back at the recipe, I realized the measurements in this one were faulty, which caused the cookies to spread terribly. They tasted okay, but were an absolute mess!
8. Mini Pumpkin Muffins

I made these mini pumpkin muffins for my almost 1 year old to have with his breakfast, and he absolutely loved them! They did not have any added sugar, so they are mainly made of pumpkin, mashed banana, flour, egg, and a few other ingredients. I tried one, and they were actually pretty good. The pumpkin flavor came out well, and with the added cinnamon, he definitely got a little taste of fall. I will be baking these again for him.
9. Spiced Spritz Cookies

After my failed cookies, I decided to test out a fall spritz cookie for the cookie jar series. I think they turned out good, minus the fact that I burnt one of the batches. I had a hard time knowing if they were made correctly or if the recipe was good because I’ve never had spritz cookies before. Overall, I thought the flavor was good! You can find the recipe here to try them out.
10. Apple Cider Donuts

These donuts were delicious! I made these as one of my regular posts – recipe here – and I’m so glad I did. They are packed with fall flavor and coated in cinnamon sugar. Even though donuts are considered a breakfast item, these were a great sweet treat to have in the evenings.
11. Apple Butter Cheesecake Bars

I made these bars to take to Bible study, and I chose this recipe so I could use up some of the apple butter I had made a few days before. I feel like the picture does not do justice to how delicious these were. The crust is made with brown sugar, oats, and pecans, and then topped with a cheesecake filling, apple butter, and more of the crust crumbled on top. As I write this, I’m thinking I should make these again.
12. Apple Crisp

It’s been a while since I made and had apple crisp, and I feel like I was seriously underestimating it. Because I always see lots of over the top desserts online, I think I sometimes forget how delicious a simple one can be. Apple crisp is so simple and easy to make, but is still packed with so much fall flavor. Then, when you add the vanilla ice cream alongside a warm scoop of the crisp 🤤 It was so good! Recipe here.
Like I said – lots of apples this month! I will keep making those apple goodies, but I am excited to get into more of the pumpkin desserts in October. Pumpkin roll and pumpkin bread are 100% on my list! It will be a busy month of birthdays for us, too, though, so you can also expect to see some birthday cakes on next month’s recap. I hope you enjoy your fall season, and all of the baked goodies that come with it!
